AI-generated content
Last updated: November 1, 2026
Everything on metime is made by artificial intelligence (AI): the stories, story ideas, pictures, short films, narration voices, and the characters you chat with or call. Everything is generated for you by AI, only for your own stories. No person writes a chapter, draws a picture or voices a character. Before you see or hear anything, our automated moderation checks it against our Content policy, and our staff review what those checks block and what readers report.
What this means
- It is all fiction. Stories, pictures, films, voices and characters are invented, and they can contain mistakes, odd turns or repetition.
- Every character must be an adult. Pictures and films are designed to show only adults: every person in them is described as an adult, and each picture and film passes an automated age check on our own servers before it is kept. Anything where a face is estimated to be under 24, might be under 20, or cannot be assessed is deleted at once and not shown, unless the law requires us to preserve it. Every picture also gets a second check of how old the people in it look, and is deleted if anyone could pass for under 18 or looks under 25, or the check cannot answer. No automated check is perfect: if you see anything that looks under 18, report it and we remove it.
- No real people. We do not allow sexual content about real people, and we do not make pictures, films or voices of real people, celebrities or look-alikes. We do not allow deepfakes: you must not use metime to create images, video, audio or text that show, imitate or put words in the mouth of a real person. Our checks block famous and named real people, but they can't always tell when an invented name belongs to someone real, so this rule also depends on you. Any likeness to a real person is accidental.
- Nothing comes from you but words. You cannot upload photos, videos or voice recordings. Our system writes every picture and film description from your story.
- Voices are synthetic. Narration and call voices are stock voices from our providers' standard catalogues. We never copy or clone anyone's voice.
- Results vary. We cannot promise the same request gives the same result twice, or that a story or picture is unique.
- It stays private. Your stories, pictures, films and chats are private to you. We do not publish them or show them to other readers.
- Labels. In the app, chapters, the pictures and films in your stories and gallery, narration, chats, calls and the night clerk are labelled as AI-generated or AI. Story covers and the pictures on story ideas are not labelled one by one, but they are AI-generated too.
Chats and calls with characters
- Characters are AI, not people. When you chat with or call a character, or talk to the night clerk, you are talking to an AI. The chat and call screens say so.
- If you sincerely ask a character whether it is a person or an AI, it will step out of the story, say plainly that it is an AI character on metime, and then offer to carry on.
- In a chat that stays open for a long time, we remind you every 3 hours that you are talking with an AI character. Calls end after 60 minutes, and the call screen shows that the character is AI for the whole call.
- AI companions may not be suitable for some minors. metime is for adults only.
- Characters are not people or professionals. They cannot give advice, and they cannot help in an emergency.
If you are struggling: our crisis protocol
- What we look for: in chats, calls and messages to the night clerk, we check your own messages for signs that you may be thinking about suicide or self-harm, or are in a real emergency, such as someone hurting you. A quick word check runs on every message. When it finds possible signs, an AI check reads that one message to tell real distress from story drama or a turn of phrase. If that AI check fails, we treat the message as a possible crisis.
- What you see: the character steps out of the story (or the night clerk pauses) with a short, fixed message that we wrote in advance, and does not reply to that message. The message lists support: in the US, call or text 988 (Suicide & Crisis Lifeline), any time; anywhere else, findahelpline.com lists free, confidential lines in your country; if you are in danger right now, call your local emergency number (911 in the US, 112 in Europe). On a call, the character says this out loud, and the details appear on your screen. Your story is still there whenever you want to come back.
- What we don't do: we do not contact anyone, such as emergency services, your family or the police. Story requests are not checked this way, and our checks can miss things. If you are in danger, call 911 or your local emergency number.
- What we keep: the time, your account, where it happened (chat, call or night clerk) and which story, the kind of signal, the length of your message and a one-way fingerprint of it. We never keep the message itself. These records are kept for about 13 months (400 days), or until you delete your account, and we use them only to count how often the protocol is used and to improve it.
If something looks like a real person
If you believe a picture, film, voice or story shows you, or someone you represent, or uses a real person's likeness, tell us. Use Report and choose "Looks like a real person", or write to hello@metime.ink. You do not need an account. We remove it immediately, and never later than 48 hours after a valid request, including weekends and holidays, whether or not we agree it resembles you, and we remove any copies we know of. See Complaints and content removal, "Removal of intimate images of you", for what a valid request includes.
