Privacy Policy
Last updated: November 1, 2026
metime (metime.ink) is run by Inkstone Labs, LLC, a Florida limited liability company ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, who we share it with, how long we keep it, and the choices you have.
The short version
- Your stories are private to you. Our staff look at an item only when our safety systems flag it or someone reports it.
- We collect as little as we can. You can sign up with a passkey and no email address.
- We do not sell your data, share it for advertising, or use advertising or analytics companies.
- We do not collect, use or sell personal data, including your stories, to train AI models.
- AI providers process what you ask for so they can write, draw, voice and check it for you.
- You can export your stories and delete your account at any time in Settings.
What we collect
- Account: your display name, the invite code you used, your sign-in credentials (a passkey, or an account key that we store only in a scrambled form that cannot be read back), and an optional recovery email address.
- Age confirmations: that you confirmed you are 18 or older and that every character is an adult, and when.
- Age verification, if you have to verify: the result (verified or not), the method, the date and our verification partner's reference number. Our partner, Didit, sends us only the result, never your selfie or ID images (see the 18+ notice).
- Approximate location: your US state, worked out from your IP address when you sign up and as you use metime, so that we can apply state age-verification laws. We keep the state on your account, not your IP address.
- Rate limits: when an account is created, or a sign-in email is requested, we keep a keyed, one-way code made from your IP address (and, for sign-in emails, from the email address), kept up to 35 days to limit how many accounts are created from one place and how many emails are sent. The code cannot be turned back into the address without our secret key.
- Your stories: story requests, directions, notes, chapter edits and author-mode plans; the stories written for you; saved characters; your tastes, limits and favourite or banned words; reader settings.
- Chats and calls: your messages with characters and their replies, and written transcripts of calls. We do not keep the audio of calls.
- Night clerk: your messages with the night clerk (our in-app AI assistant).
- Media: pictures, films and narration made for you.
- Safety records: when our systems block a request or a passage, we keep the time, your account, the story and chapter, the kind of content, a short general reason, how long the text was and a one-way fingerprint of it, plus our staff's decision. We never keep the blocked text itself, unless the law requires us to preserve it, and it is never saved as part of your story.
- Reports: if you report something, which item it was, the reason you picked and your comment.
- Support signals: if a message you send in a chat, call or to the night clerk suggests you may be in crisis, we show support resources instead of a reply. We keep only the time, your account, where it happened and which story, the kind of signal, the message length and a one-way fingerprint, never the message. See "If you are struggling" on our AI-generated content page.
- Terms: which version of the Terms you agreed to, and when. When you subscribe or upgrade, also that you ticked the box agreeing to the renewal terms: the plan, its price and renewal period, the version of the wording and the Terms, and when.
- Payments, once paid plans are live: your plan, its renewal date and any cancellation, and receipts (date, amount, currency, what was bought and the payment processor's transaction number). Your card details are collected and kept by our payment processor, not by us.
- Usage: counts of what you create (used for hourly and daily limits), the technical cost of making it, and simple events inside the app (for example "started a story" or "reached chapter 2"). These events contain no story text and are not shared with anyone.
- How you found us: if you arrived at metime.ink from a link with campaign labels (such as utm_source) or from another website, your browser remembers those labels, the other site's name and the first metime.ink page you opened for 30 days and sends them when you sign up. We keep them with your sign-up record to count how readers find us.
- Messages you send us: emails to hello@metime.ink and our replies.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, your browser's push address. Notifications only ever say that a chapter is ready, never what it is about.
- Invitations: if you used the earlier version of metime, we keep a private list of your email address, display name, plan on the earlier version, and when you signed up and were last active there, so that we can invite you to this version. Your entry is deleted when you join, when you use the unsubscribe or "not me" link in the invitation, or when you ask us at hello@metime.ink. If you opt out, or later delete your account, we keep only a scrambled (keyed one-way) form of your email address so that we never invite you again.
Sensitive information
Your stories, tastes and chats can reveal your sexual interests. We treat all of it as sensitive. We use it only to write and check your stories, never for advertising, and never to make decisions about you with legal or similarly significant effects. We never sell it or share it except with the service providers below who make metime work.
How we use your information
- To run metime: write, illustrate, narrate and voice your stories, and remember your settings.
- To keep metime safe and lawful: check content against our Content policy, review reports, prevent abuse, and apply age-verification laws.
- To handle payments, refunds and support.
- To understand costs and fix problems.
- To meet our legal and payment-network obligations, such as keeping records of complaints and receipts.
Who receives your information
We share information only with service providers that help us run metime, only what each one needs, and under their terms for business customers:
- Cloud hosting: Google Cloud (our servers and database, in the United States).
- Story writing and safety checks: OpenRouter, which passes requests to the companies that host the AI models we use (currently models from xAI (Grok), Google (Gemini), DeepSeek, Z.ai (GLM) and OpenAI's open-weight models). They receive the text needed to write or check your story, chat or call. We set OpenRouter to use only providers that don't train on requests; some may keep requests briefly for abuse monitoring.
- Pictures and films: WaveSpeed and fal. They receive picture and film descriptions written by our system from your story and, for films, the picture the film starts from. They never receive any photo of you.
- Narration and calls: Google (Gemini text-to-speech, through Google's Gemini API), ElevenLabs (text-to-speech) and Deepgram (speech recognition). They receive the text to be spoken and, on a call, the audio of what you say so it can be turned into text. We do not keep call audio. Google keeps Gemini API requests for up to 55 days for abuse monitoring and does not train on them.
- Age verification: Didit, if you have to verify your age. Didit collects your ID and selfie directly and sends us only the result, never the images.
- Email: Resend sends our emails (for example sign-in links to your recovery address).
- Domain and email forwarding: Cloudflare runs our domain name and forwards emails sent to hello@metime.ink to our team's mailbox.
- Payments: our payment processor (named on the checkout page and on your receipt) handles checkout, card details and receipts. We send it our account number for you and what you are buying.
- Notifications: if you turn them on, your browser's push service (for example from Google, Apple or Mozilla) delivers them.
- Payment compliance: our payment processor, its bank and the card networks (such as Visa and Mastercard) may review our records and content when their rules require it, for example to check that we follow their rules on content, complaints and age checks. They see only what that review needs.
The automated age check on every picture and film runs on our own servers. We work out your US state on our own servers too, using IP geolocation data by DB-IP.com (https://db-ip.com), licensed under CC BY 4.0.
We may also disclose information if the law requires it, to report apparent child sexual abuse material to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC), to protect someone's safety, or to a company that takes over metime (which would have to keep this policy's promises).
We do not sell your personal information, share it for cross-context behavioural advertising, or let anyone use it for advertising.
Cookies and similar technology
- We use one sign-in cookie that keeps you signed in. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
- Your browser also stores a few settings on your device, such as whether pictures are blurred, where you stopped reading, and your answer to the 18+ question (for 30 days). These stay on your device. The one exception is how you found us (described above), which your browser keeps for 30 days and sends when you sign up.
- We count visits to our public pages ourselves, without cookies and without storing IP addresses. A visitor is counted with a code that changes every day, so no one can be followed from one day to the next.
- Because we do not sell or share data for advertising, there is nothing to opt out of.
How long we keep it
- Your account, stories, characters, chats, call transcripts, pictures, films and narration: until you delete them or your account.
- Pictures made for story ideas: 30 days.
- Your age-check result and age confirmations: for as long as your account exists.
- Usage counts for limits, and the keyed codes made from IP and email addresses for rate limits: 35 days. In-app events, including how you found us: 400 days, or until you delete your account.
- Visit counts on our public pages: 400 days.
- Automatic safety blocks: 180 days from the block, once our staff have reviewed it (an unreviewed one stays until it is reviewed). Reports and complaints, with our decisions: 3 years after they are closed. Crisis support signals: about 13 months (400 days), or until you delete your account.
- Which Terms you accepted and when, and your agreement to a plan's renewal terms: for as long as your account exists, and 3 years after you delete it.
- Receipts: for as long as your account exists, and after you delete it until 7 years from the date of each payment.
- Emails you send us: as long as we need them to deal with your message, and up to 3 years after a complaint is closed.
- The private invitation list: until you join, opt out or ask us to delete your entry.
- The scrambled form of an email address that opted out of invitations: for as long as we send invitations, so that it is never invited again.
- Material we must preserve by law, for example when we report apparent child sexual abuse material to NCMEC: for as long as the law requires.
- Backups: we back up our database and stories once a night to storage on our own server; nothing is sent elsewhere. Each backup is kept for 7 days, so deleted data leaves our backups within 7 days.
When you delete your account
- Deleting your account (Settings, then Account, then Delete my account, and type DELETE) cancels your subscription and removes your account, stories, characters, chats, call transcripts, pictures, films, narration, settings and in-app events.
- A few records stay for the periods above, because consumer-protection law, tax law or our payment processor requires them: safety and complaint records, the record of which Terms you accepted, and receipts. They are kept without your name, your comments or any story text, and are linked only to a one-way fingerprint of your account number, so they no longer identify you to us directly. Receipts keep only the date, amount, currency, what was bought and the payment processor's transaction number.
Your choices and rights
- Export: Settings, then Account, then Export my stories downloads your stories, chats, night-clerk messages, characters, settings and receipts as text files. To get a copy of anything else, including pictures and films, write to us.
- Delete: you can delete your account at any time, as described above.
- Depending on where you live, you may have the right to know what we hold about you, to get a copy, to correct it, to delete it, and to limit how sensitive information is used. We give these rights to every reader, wherever they live. Write to hello@metime.ink and we will answer within 45 days. If we need more time, we may extend that once, by up to another 45 days, and we will tell you why. We may need to confirm the request comes from the account holder.
- You can ask through an authorised agent. We may ask the agent for proof that you gave them permission, and ask you to confirm your identity with us directly.
- If we turn down your request, you can appeal by replying to our answer. We will answer an appeal within 45 days. If you are still unhappy, you can contact your state attorney general.
- We will not treat you differently for using your privacy rights.
Security
We protect your information with encrypted connections, private storage on our servers, owner-only access checks on every request, and access limited to our small team. No system is perfectly secure, so please keep your passkey and account key private.
Children
metime is only for adults. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has used metime, write to hello@metime.ink and we will close the account and delete its data, except anonymised records that we must keep (such as complaint and payment records, which no longer identify the account holder).
Where your data is processed
metime is run from the United States, and our servers are in the United States. Some of our providers may process data in other countries under their own safeguards.
Changes to this policy
If we make an important change, we will tell you in the app before it applies. The date at the top shows when this policy last changed.
